Download historical price data

To download historical price data and complete your price databases, open the dialog via the Start menu:

The dialog will open and you can choose the instrument lists or instruments to be backfilled with historic price data. You can also choose whether the data will overwrite existing data, or retrieve data only for days when no price data already exist.

In the example above, the last 200 days of intraday data will be downloaded. For instruments that already has data, nothing happens because the check option Overwrite existing data is not checked.
The lists, which gets the data, they are marked, ie Large Cap and Index USA. In the list on the bottom right you can check in and out of individual instruments that you want to receive data or not receive data.

If you check Backfill single day only the selected date will be retrieved rather than the number of days stated above.

Tips for downloading data

If you download many instruments and days in one go the download can take a long time, several hours depending on connection speed and hard drive performance. We recommend that you download data while the stock market is closed so as not to "freeze"  the program, while the stock exchange is open. A progress bar at the bottom left of the dialog shows how far the download process has come.

Compress databases

In the maintenance dialog there is also an option to compress databases on disk. This is useful in two ways:

  • Compress databases to a smaller size by eliminating waste space
  • Repair disk writing errors that may cause problems

Any intraday entries that are found to be defect are automatically removed, and you can download new historic data for that day and instrument if necessary. Compressing the databases makes program execution faster.
