Import End of Day data from external txt-file |
You can import EOD data for any instrument, for example if you have downloaded data as a txt file from Internet. You can then extend day resolution charts and do analysis as far back in time as you can get data. To import historical price data, open the dialog via the Start menu: Then click Import EOD-data: 1. The first step is to select the txt file you want to import data from. The format should be 1 line per day, and you can adjust the field order according to the file, step 5 below. 2. Select the separators used in the txt file, for exampel decimal point or comma. 3. Select separator for floating numbers, decimal point or comma. The third parameter is date format. Sometimes "-" is used between year, month and day. 4. Drop down the meny to select the instrument you wand to import data to. 5. The field order can be selected according to the txt file used. In the example above the instrument name "SPY" is located in the first column, and we choose to ignore that column. The next field is Date, followed by Open, High, Low and Close. The last field to the right is Volume. Other txt files can use other field orders. 6. Click Execute import to finish. The data is validated and written to the database. To see the data in the chart, briefly switch to intraday resolution then back to EOD resolution. This refreshes the chart and the new data should be visible. Note the check boxes to the left. These enables you to decide if data should only be written to dates where data is missing, or if you only want to replace existing data - or if both boxes are checked, overwrite existing data and also fill empty dates. TIP: The window where the txt file contents are shown is editable, you can directly edit data. This can be useful if you want to correct a defect day for exampe. It is possible to use txt files with a single row. |
